Former shipping line

Safmarine container tracking, now with Maersk.

Safmarine no longer runs services under its own name: they belong to Maersk. Track a former Safmarine shipment with Maersk, which CargoScope supports.

What happened to Safmarine

Safmarine, founded in South Africa in 1946, was part of Maersk for many years before Maersk folded it into its own brand during 2020. From 1 January 2021, Safmarine's services have been sold and run as Maersk.

Tracking a former Safmarine shipment

Look the shipment up with Maersk, using the reference Maersk issued: its Bill of Lading or booking number, or the container number. Enter the container number exactly as it is painted on the box or printed on your documents, even when it still carries an old Safmarine prefix.

  • A document issued before the change can still name Safmarine; ask Maersk or your booking agent for the current reference.
  • If Maersk cannot find the shipment, confirm the reference with the agent that issued it before assuming the cargo has not moved.

Track Maersk shipments in CargoScope

CargoScope tracks Maersk shipments. The Maersk page lists the reference types it accepts and starts tracking; the shipment record then keeps the available milestones and ETA changes in one place.
